ABOUT DANVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA
Danville is a quaint small town located along the shores of the North Branch of the Susquehanna River. It was incorporated in 1792 and was at that time an important site for transporting furs and timber along the Susquehanna river. In the 1800's the town experienced an increase in industry, becoming a major hub for iron foundries and refinement. Danville is famous for the development and manufacturing of the iron T-rail, used extensively in development of the Transcontinental Railroad. Our heritage in the iron industry is still seen in the local buildings, schools and sports teams. The ironworks have long since left Danville, and the town is primarily engaged in the delivery of healthcare, with the Geisinger Medical Center being the largest employer in the area.
