FUN, MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT

Danville and the surrounding communities in the Susquehanna Valley offer many opportunities to kick back and enjoy yourself.  There are fairs, amusement parks, street festivals, concerts, theater performances and many other activities to enjoy in the area during residency.  Here are just a few of the highlights that our residents try not to miss.

KNOEBELS AMUSEMENT RESORT

Knoebels is a family-owned and operated amusement park located just 15 minutes away in Elysburg.  It has been rated as the number one family amusement park in the country and has won many national awards for its rides and foods.  Entrance to the park is free and ride tickets are good indefinitely so you can always go back and use them later.  Knoebels is a local treasure and residents go often.  Click here for a great review of the park.

THE BLOOMSBURG FAIR

The Bloomsburg fair is held every September in Bloomsburg, just ten minutes out of Danville.  It is the largest county fair in Pennsylvania and the third largest in the country.  The fair boasts rides, concerts, farm exhibits and some of the best food around.  Vendors sell just about anything deep fried to satisfy any taste.  Click here to learn a bit more about the Bloomsburg Fair.

DANVILLE IRON HERITAGE FESTIVAL

The Danville Iron Heritage Festival is an annual celebration held to remember Danville's history and celebrate the town's achievements.  Events include an excellent fireworks display that takes place alongside the river, lots of food vendors, live music and more.  The event takes place over the third weekend in July every year.

THE DANVILLE SPRING FLING

The Danville Spring Fling is a great way to finally get out of the house after being cooped up all winter.  The main street in Danville is closed to traffic and plays host to over 200 food and craft vendors from all over the area.  The event also includes live music, a 5K race, wine tasting and fundraisers for local charities.  Geisinger is a major sponsor of this annual event each May.

THE BLOOMSBURG THEATER ENSEMBLE

The Bloomsburg Theater Ensemble is a local professional theater group that has been entertaining the community for over 40 years.  The BTE actors typically perform six to eight times annually as well as hosts a number of other events such as comedy nights, small concerts and children's theater.  The BTE hosts an annual beer tasting event aptly named "The Taming of the Brew" which is a sellout everyyear.

WEIS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

The Weis Center for the Performing Arts is located on the campus of Bucknell University in nearby Lewisburg.  It is home to the Bucknell Theater and Dance Program.  Additionally, the center hosts a number of professional theater, dance and musical performances throughout the year.  Special events with magicians, talk show hosts and even acrobats dot the performance season.  Click here to check out the Weis Center's upcoming shows.

LOCAL LIVE MUSIC

The Susquehanna Valley plays host to an active music scene.  There are many venues that host live music in Danville as well as local communities.  Whether its an open mic night at the local brew pub or a full set by one of our many local bands, live music from a number of genres can be enjoyed on almost any weekend.

THE UPTOWN MUSIC COLLECTIVE

The Uptown Music Collective is a music school for kids located in Williamsport that hosts a concert series each year.  Highly talented kids from the region audition for the coveted SPG1 spots and perform four major performances annually.  These kids fill the house every night, selling out the 2000 seat Community Arts Center shortly after tickets go on sale.  UMC is supported by Geisinger's Janet Weis Children's Hospital for its amazing work with our regions kids.  Learn more about UMC and find links to their performances here.

WILLIAMSPORT COMMUNITY ARTS CENTER

The Community Arts Center is a wonderful old theater which first opened in 1928.  It has been beautifully and painstakingly preserved and updated and provides the region with a world class venue for theater and symphony productions as well as concerts and other community events.  A fine dinner and a production at the CAC is a great way to spend an evening.  Check out their upcoming schedule and learn more about this wonderful theater on their website here.
